Le Conseil Franco-Britannique, la Franco-British Lawyers Society et les Franco-British Connections vous invitent au Séminaire organisé à l’occasion des 800 ans de la Magna Carta. Il traitera des enseignements et conséquences de la Magna Carta et de la Déclaration des Droits de l’Homme et du Citoyen sur la société au travers de l’Histoire. L’événement se déroulera le 11 juin dans le prestigieux cadre de Lancaster House à Londres.

Au programme, des intervenants de renom des deux côtés de la Manche parmi lesquels Lord Sumption, SE Sylive Bermann, Pr Etienne Picard, Keith Vaz MP, Pr Robert Tombs, Rt Hon Lady Justice Arden, Judge Bernard Stirn, Rt Hon Dominic Grieve QC MP, Jean-Paul Costa, Shami Chakrabarti.

Les questions suivantes seront traitées au cours de cette journée :
– Comment ces deux documents ont-ils formé la relation entre ceux qui gouvernent, et ceux qui sont gouvernés?
– L’Europe devrait-elle avoir plus ou moins de pouvoirs sur ses États membres?
– Quelles légitimités dévolues aux classes politiques françaises et britanniques ?
– Quel droit d’exemption pour les religions au regard de la liberté d’expression?
– Le sécularisme en Europe est-il en péril ?

La conférence se tiendra en anglais, et le coût est de £30 pour les étudiants et £50 pour les non-étudiants.

The Franco-British Council, the Franco-British Lawyers’ Society and the Franco-British Connections would like to invite a select number of student to a day seminar on the impact of Magna Carta and the Déclaration des Droits de l’Homme et du Citoyen on our societies through history. The event is to be held on the 11th of June at Lancaster House, a beautiful historical location close to Buckingham Palace.

Prestigious speakers from both sides of the Channel will participate in this event including lawyer and human rights campaigner Shami Chakrabarti, Jean-Paul Costa (former President of the European Court of Human Rights), judge and historian Lord Sumption, Rt Hon Lady Justice Arden, Etienne Picard (Professor in Public Law at the Sorbonne), playwright and critic Bonnie Greer, Keith Vaz MP, Rt Hon Dominic Grieve QC MP, Robert Tombs (Professor in Modern European History), and Judge Bernard Stirn (President of the Litigation Section of the French administrative supreme court).

They will be discussing questions such as :
– How have these documents shaped the relationship between those who govern and citizens today?
– Should Europe have more or less power over its member states?
– Do the domestic political classes need to regain legitimacy?
– Do religions have a legitimate right to be exempted from the domain of free speech?
– Are the secular settlements of Europe secure?
